BOOK
  Untouchables
Written by Narendra Jadha/ Published by University of California Press(2007)
Anyone who has heard about the caste system of India and thought about the lives of Dalit, the underclass of Indian social hierarchy. If you imagine that you are born as one, how would your life turn out to be? The book "Untouchables" describe the tragedy in details. Dalit, who were considered foul and avoided, had no right to visit Hindu temple, the shrine of their religion. What is worse was that they had to sweep the floor with a broom they always carry with them to obliterate their footprints, and were denied access to free drinking water. The caste system which had been around for 3,500 years was abolished by the constitution of India in 1947, but its ancient power still holds and influences people's lives in India.

Narendra Jadhav, who was born in 1953, 6 years after the abolishment, spent his childhood without freedom. However, what sets him apart from the others began from one thing. He believed that every human is equal and has dignity, no matter what kind of race, ethnicity and class they belong to..
